Hi, my name is Miss Cooke and I am Donaldson class teacher. Donaldson Class is a mixed Reception , Year 1 and 2 class taught by both focused teaching and continuous provision. Our learning environment and continuous provision allows the children to enhance and consolidate prior learning and explore new concepts in a variety of practical ways. It also gives the children the free choice to follow their interests and curiosity. This is why I love teaching a mixed age class that includes continuous provision.
I have the exciting job of planning lessons that challenge all year groups in the appropriate way. I have an excellent understanding of the EYFS framework and the Key Stage 1 curriculum which ensures that our pupils are taught the appropriate curriculum in a way that challenges and inspires them.
We follow Essential Letters and Sounds for both Phonics and Spelling across all 3 year groups. Our English lessons are predominately based around books and texts, but can also be linked to wider subjects in our curriculum such as History. We love bringing our learning to life through high quality texts and resources. Reading is a huge passion of mine and we are lucky enough to have a a weekly session in our school library where the children can not only explore the books, but also take a new book home to continue to foster their love of reading outside of school. This is one of our favourite parts of the week!
Our EYFS children follow a mastery approach in Maths to allow a deep understanding of number and their composition. Year 1 and 2 follow the mastery approach using concrete, pictorial and abstract representations to ensure they can visualise key mathematical concepts to build upon their existing knowledge and skills.
Donaldson Class have a lovely outside area where the children’s learning can continue and built upon during continuous provision time. Our reception children also have access to bikes and trikes to build upon their gross motor and coordination.
